The People In Ghana

 

As of the 2000 census, Ghana had a population of 18.4 million, with a population growth rate of 2.5%, and a density of 77.1 per square kilometre. There are four major tribes in Ghana: Akan, making up 44% of the population, Mole-Dagomba, at 16%, Ewe, at 13%, and Ga at 8%, with European and other minorities making up a scarce 0.2%. Christian and Muslim are the two reigning faiths in Ghana, Christian making up 42.8% of the population, Muslim making up 12.0%, and other religions making up 38.2%. The official language of the Ghanaians is English, but the African languages of Akan, Mole-Dagomba, Ewe and Ga are also spoken.

Life expectancy in Ghana, on average is 55.19, with males receiving a slightly lower estimate, at 53.27, and women receiving the higher at 57.17. The infant mortality rate is at 84.5 deaths to every 1000 births. The estimated birth rate as of 1993 was 44.66 births per 1000 of population, and the estimated death rate was 12.52 deaths per 1000 of population.
